The band rehearsed for three months
whilst advertising for a keyboard player/rhythm
guitarist/backing vocalist. It proved
impossible to find one, so Ritchie took
up rhythm guitar as well as the lead
vocal, Dave took up keyboard parts transcribed
to guitar and backing vocals on top
of the lead guitar, and Paul Bell took
up other backing vocals and bass.
UUFO
only played twelve gigs in the eight
months they were together, but gathered
a good following and some outstanding
reviews. See the review from Rifts
Magazine HERE
Paul
Bell left in mid-August of that year
and a replacement was sought. The new
line-up rehearsed, but unfortunately
Paul's replacement was not as enthusiastic
as the rest of the band. UUFO
played their final gig - the first and
last with the new bass player - and
Dave and Ritchie reluctantly decided
to call it a day. Regretfully they had
never recorded anything, no video, no
audio, nothing!
Ritchie
and Dave went their separate ways for
a couple of years, Ritchie went back
into the live scene and Dave went into
recording his own instrumental work.
Jump
forward to Autumn 2004, and Ritchie
called Dave up and suggested recording
a mini acoustic album of UFO’s
ballads. This would be purely self-indulgent,
something for themselves only to listen
to. However, before long they had recorded
enough tracks to do a full album. This
is the Night Bars And Guitars
cd.
They
then decided to record another album
- one which would reflect the live set
they did as UUFO. This
became Close Encounters
and was released in late 2005
A
third album is also planned - and this
one will be made up of songs from the
Chapman era and the Schenker reunion
era.
At
this moment in time there are no plans
to resurrect a live band. Dave and Ritchie
may perform an impromptu acoustic set
one day. And who knows, they may record
some original material once the third
album is finished... but that is for
later.
The
songs on these albums are what they
are - a tribute to one of the finest
Classic British Rock Bands of our time.
We hope those of you who hear them will
enjoy the experience.
